Another time II door Anthony Gormley, 2008 Het voorlaatste moment De figuur hoog op de dakrand doet denken aan een mens die besloten heeft uit deze wereld te stappen en de laatste ogenblikken geconcentreerd in zichzelf gekeerd is, onbereikbaar voor wie dan ook. Naar aanleiding van de aankoop van het beeld door de Kunsthal / Boymans, werd een tentoonstelling over Gormley ingericht. Het beeld maakte daarbij deel uit van het project Event Horizon: op nog veertien andere gebouwen binnen een straal van een kilometer rond de Kunsthal stond dezelfde eenzame man, een afgietsel van de kunstenaar zelf. De mannen stonden met het gezicht richting Kunsthal. Wie de figuur ontwaart kan in verwarring gebracht worden, en dat is de opzet. De nietsvermoedende passant moet ontregeld en aan het denken gezet worden. Heeft er al iemand 112 gebeld bij het ontwaren van de man op de dakrand?

am not interested in art as distraction or entertainment. I am interested in
art as a catalyst for making people aware of how extraordinary their lives
are already. Over fifty percent of the world population now lives in the city.
What does that mean? It means that in relating to the world or to being
alive, we are relating primarily with a built-in environment. That means a
humanly constructed habitat. I think this has very profound effects on our
imagination. I think the truth is that human nature only makes sense in
relation to nature: feeling the seasons, being aware of the elements. I hope
that what my work does, is somehow make these things act as a sort of acupuncture
points within a given environment -whether
is it down by the sea or whether it is all over a city- that asks us to attend: ‘Oh, I see this body
isolated in space against the sky. Ah, through the agency of this body I
become aware of the sky’. You might say, doesn’t everybody do that
anyway? Well, they do and they don’t
